20% of black women are using skin whitening products to have a lighter skin but few of them know the negative their effect.
Two chemicals are commonly used in whitening creams:
-Hydroquinone: Used as a photographic developer, this substance inhibite melanin production. The long-term use of this product causes leukemia. Since 2001, the European Union banned the use of hydroquinone in cosmetics.
-Cortisone: the repeated use of cortisone on the skin destroys the melanin. Misuse causes stretch marks among other. There are also home made mixture with bleach, acid and other substances harmful to the skin. The damage may be irreparable: burns, acne, tasks, body parts turning black, foul odor, wound healing problems (I’ll avoid photo illustration).
